Independence Day Thanksgiving Mass and Salo-Salo

To commemorate the 112th Independence Day, a thanksgiving mass was jointly celebrated by the various Filipino Community Organizations in the UK on the 5th of June 2010.
Led by the Philippine Embassy in London, an Independence Day Thanksgiving Mass and Salo-Salo working committee was convened at least 10-weeks before the day. Chaired by the Consul General Tess de Vega and assisted by other Embassy Officers, the working committee was attended by represenatives of various Filipino Community Organizations and Groups.
The annual anticipated Sunday mass held at Our Lady of Victories Church, Kensington High Street was con-celebrated by Fathers Cirino Potrido, Jesus Dicto, Agustin Paunon, Claro Conde, Norian Julia, James Curry (Parish Priest), David Irwin, Noel Travers, Ari dy and Canon James Cronin with the Rt. Reverend George Stack, Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster as the main celebrant. The celebrants were assisted by the FilCommunity of Our Lady of Victories Church as altar and mass servers. The first reading was delivered by Leilani Go Olivar (Doce Pares) while the second reading was delivered by Nigel Somera (Share Hope Outreach).
The different Filipino communities provided support for the range of services needed during the celebration of the mass. In particular, the Bidding Prayer or Prayer of the Faithful was delivered in the various main local dialects with the Magnificat & the Penafrancia Choir providing the wonderful hymns and songs of reverence. offerings of flowers, spirits and fruits were also presented by organizational representatives and interested individuals. Ambassador Antonio Lagdameo and Mrs. Lagdameo generously offered the solemn bread nad wine. The Camera Club of Filipinos in the UK provided the event’s official photo documentation together with Mr. Luke Deacon.
Ambassador Antonio Lagdameo delivered his Independence Day message before the final mass blessing. A traditional salo-salo at the nearby community hall subsequently followed after. The salo-salo was emceed by Mr. Peps Villanueva with program entertainment provided by the Philippine Jury International, Oval Filipino Community, Doce Pares, and the Philippine Generations Ltd’s Kid Cras group. Light snacks and drinks were shared by everybody on this annual gathering.
